The unique fauna and flora of our Alpine mountains. Obertauern, a natural treasure that touches our senses deeply.

Here people and their environment connect in a way that lasts. The body recharges and new impulses awaken. The energy returns and stays.

"green holiday" at Obertauern.

  • Certification systems in the ski area: Obertauern is definitely in a preferential situation with regard to its tourism resource consumption. Due to the altitude at 1,740 m, snowmaking is only required to a much lesser extent than in lower-lying destinations. It is assumed that the need for snowmaking is at least 50% lower than usual. In theory, even less if there is early snowfall and low temperatures. In addition, snow production can be made even more efficient thanks to the snow depth measurement in the snow groomers.

  • Traffic in town: Due to its 100% ski-in/ski-out situation, you generally do not need a car or ski bus in Obertauern during your entire stay. Traffic is therefore massively restricted without additional measures and is therefore negligible. The main electricity providers in Salzburg also obtain their electricity predominantly from renewable energies - mainly hydropower. A large proportion of the employees are also accommodated locally or form carpools organized by the companies.

  • Mountain railways: In principle it can be assumed that further savings are possible in the area of lifts. Reducing the driving speed exponentially reduces the energy consumption. This can be individually adapted to the number of guests. It should be noted that due to the logical and perfect networking of the lift connections in Obertauern and the large number of entry points in the local area, no queues are to be expected at the lifts, even at so-called "rush hour times". Smaller infrastructural needs in the lift area, such as communication systems, are already powered by solar. The electricity requirement of all cable cars in Austria is 750 GWh (= 1.2% of the total domestic energy requirement) including technical snowmaking. For comparison: the standby energy consumption of all electrical household appliances/TV/etc. alone is 800 Gwh.
